How to Run Live Quizzes on Your Stream

Rebeam Team6 min read

Quizzes take audience engagement further than polls. Instead of just voting, viewers test their knowledge by answering timed questions. Correct answers earn points and a live leaderboard tracks who is winning. When you multistream with Rebeam, quizzes work across both Twitch and YouTube simultaneously.

Why quizzes work for streamers

Quizzes create competitive energy. Viewers want to prove they know the answers. The timed format keeps attention — each question is a mini-event with a countdown, reveal, and leaderboard update. Good for trivia nights, game knowledge tests, community Q&A, or just breaking up a long stream.

How Rebeam quizzes work

Here is a quick overview of how quizzes work from start to finish:

1. Create a quiz

From the Rebeam dashboard, create a quiz with multiple questions. Each question has up to four options and one correct answer. Set a time limit per question (e.g. 15 seconds).

2. Start during your stream

Launch the quiz while live. Questions appear one at a time. The quiz overlay on screen shows the question, options, and a countdown timer. After time runs out, the correct answer is revealed.

3. Viewers answer in chat

Viewers type the number of their answer (1, 2, 3, or 4) in Twitch or YouTube chat. Rebeam scores answers automatically. Correct answers before the timer expires earn a point. A leaderboard tracks cumulative scores across all questions.

Cross-platform scoring

Votes from Twitch and YouTube count together. One leaderboard, one quiz, regardless of platform. No viewer is excluded.

Show quizzes on screen with OBS overlays

Rebeam includes two quiz overlays for OBS. The quiz overlay shows each question with options and a countdown. The leaderboard overlay shows ranked viewer scores. Both are browser sources you add to OBS. Customise colours from the dashboard. Check the overlays feature page for more details.

Quiz ideas for streamers

  • Game trivia. Test chat's knowledge about the game you're playing.
  • Stream history. "When did I first hit 100 viewers?" — reward loyal fans.
  • General knowledge. Classic pub quiz style questions.
  • Community polls with stakes. Wrong answers get "eliminated" for fun.
  • Pre-stream warmup. Fill dead air while waiting for viewers.
